Larry Dossey is pleased to announce AAPS – the Academy for the Advancement of Post-Materialist Sciences – where he is a founding board member.
From the mission statement:
The Academy for the Advancement of Postmaterialist Sciences is a non-profit membership and education organization whose mission is to promote open-minded, rigorous and evidence-based enquiry into postmaterialist consciousness research.
What Does Postmaterialism mean?
Materialism refers to assumptions about the nature of reality. In science it is expressed in terms of mathematical theories and experimental tests of concepts like matter, energy, space and time. Pre-materialism refers to pre-scientific history, when reality was understood solely in terms of supernatural or religious concepts. The prefix “post” in post-materialism refers to the next development in our understanding of reality. Post-materialism refers to the hypothesis of consciousness as a fundamental component of reality. Post-materialism is gaining support from an increasing number of scientists and scholars who have come to believe that a solely material approach (where “material” is understood in today’s terms) is insufficient to gain a comprehensive understanding of reality.
